Chinese New Year Celebration

Chinese New Year Celebration at the Chinese Christian Church of New Jersey

In order to celebrate the Chinese New Year and honoring our Chinese heritage, CCCNJ held a lively and exciting celebration on February 10, Saturday at church.

The Beloved Student Fellowship group invited more than 40 overseas students to a dumpling-making event that night with novices learning the dumpling-wrapping tricks and the old-timers showing their skills. The overseas students thoroughly enjoyed the home-cooked meal while carrying on cheerful conversations with one another. They said the meal rivals the New Year Eve meal at home!

The church auditorium was packed full by early evening as the young and the old came to the celebration. Since this year is the Year of the Dog, the emcees began by interviewing a few dog-owners and showed some hilarious videos of their pet dogs. There was much laughter from the audience in response.

Our pastor John Chang gave a short talk and he wished for everyone a happy New Year. He said that dogs are men’s best friends but lives of stray dogs are very miserable. At the same token, we are blessed to have become the children of God and we can trust Him for the rest of our lives. Pastor Chang wished for everyone present to know that God loves us and that they can receive this blessing from God.

The evening program was very lively and colorful. It started with our hand bell choir playing the famous song “Fengyang Flower Drum” followed by the parents and children from the Chinese School performing the song and dance “Let Love Stay in Our Home”. Then 30 young students from the Beloved Fellowship showed their creativity by acting in a self-directed skit illustrating how the love from God and fellow Christians saved a young girl from despair and how she learned to embrace life. Our senior group’s elderly grandpas and grandmas sang the song “Gong Shi, Gong Shi!” and gave all the kids the coveted red envelopes. The ladies in the Montville fellowship group performed a Chinese dance to the tune of “My heart, you shall praise the Lord!” wearing traditional Chinese dresses and won the sustained cheers from the audience as well.

After the program, delicious assorted Chinese snacks were served to everyone and it gave a perfect ending to a joyous and warm evening!
